Oral Surgery

At The Smile Company, we offer advanced oral surgery services that many other dental clinics don't provide. Our dentists have the necessary training, accreditation, and experience needed to make sure these procedures are done properly and expediently. At our clinic in Maryland Heights, Missouri, we have all the proper equipment needed to make sure your oral surgery procedure goes smoothly.

We perform many types of oral surgery in our dental clinic, and that's one of the advantages of choosing The Smile Company. You don't need to go to another dental clinic for specialized dental treatments.

Oral Surgery for Impacted Teeth

This procedure is usually applicable for wisdom teeth which don't fully come through your gum line, although this can happen with your other teeth as well. They become impacted or trapped between your gum tissue and your jawbone. For these cases, we usually recommend oral surgery to our patients.

If they don't get the surgery in time, the problem can get much worse. The gum tissue around the impacted tooth can swell up, become painful, and get infected. These impacted teeth can also damage your nearby teeth and they can also affect your gums and even your jaw bone. In some cases, impacted teeth can cause the growth of tumors and cysts that destroy parts of your jaw.

Oral Surgery for Tooth Replacements

While we offer dentures and bridges for missing teeth, we also have dental implants as well. These are the best replacements for missing teeth, as they feel more natural and comfortable. They also last a lifetime.

Dental implants require surgery. It requires a dental surgeon to insert and anchor a titanium screw into your jawbone so it acts as the foundation for a crown or for your fixed dentures.

Fixing Your Jaw with Oral Surgery

In some cases, your jaw may require surgery as well. This is often the case when you want dental implants but you don't have enough bone mass and density to support the implant. Oral surgery needs to be performed on your jaw to graft additional bone material to correct this issue.

You may even need surgery for your jaw if you're wearing dentures. The surgery will correct any imperfections on your jaw so that the dentures fit more properly and comfortably. The bone that supports the dentures deteriorates over time, so it may have to be fixed surgically to maintain a good fit for your dentures.

In some cases, surgery may be necessary if you have a TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder. The TMJ is the area near the front of your ear where your lower jaw is connected to your skull. There's a small joint there, and in some advanced cases the joint will need surgery to fix a particular problem.
