The goal of pediatric dentistry is to ensure that the teeth and gums of your children remain healthy. At The Smile Company, we have highly experienced pediatric specialists who have a gentle touch and the training to help both kids and their parents care for their teeth and gums.
How It Works
When you come to our Maryland Heights, Missouri clinic, we start by getting a complete medical history of your child. We will ask you or your child a few questions related to his or her health, particularly oral health. We have a tastefully designed that will make kids feel comfortable and not intimidated or frightened. We inspect your child's mouth and teeth, and we take X-rays to look for any possible problems.
Pediatric Services
At our clinic, we offer a wide variety of pediatric services to help maintain the oral health of your children. We also counsel parents on proper nutrition so that children don't get used to foods that are especially damaging to their teeth, and we also help them identify foods which keep their teeth healthy.
We also provide guidance on various childhood habits that may affect the development of the teeth. These include teaching the whole family how to brush and floss their teeth properly, choosing the right toothbrush and toothpaste, and we also give advice on habits such as thumb-sucking and the use of pacifiers.
We start working with infants as soon as their teeth comes in, and we check for cavities while offering professional teeth cleaning and fluoride treatments. We repair any damage or defects in the teeth as they appear, and we also assess the alignment of the teeth so that an improper bite can be corrected early.
We also take a very close look at the gums, and we offer preventive measures as well as gum care and treatments if the gums are infected. We also provide emergency care for knocked out teeth, displaced teeth, or fractured teeth.
Dealing with Children
Not every dentist can provide pediatric dental services, because children behave differently from adults. Some children are uncooperative or impatient during a dental exam. But at The Smile Company, our pediatric dentist has a way with kids. We can examine and treat young kids in a way that makes them feel comfortable and unafraid. We also use special equipment that are specifically designed for children.
We are fully aware that children who learn to be afraid in dental clinics are more likely to avoid going to the dentist when they become adults. It's for that reason we are extremely careful to set a child's mind at ease. We don't want them to become traumatized and neglect their regular visits to the dentist.
